1. The mechanism in one paragraph
A cookie is a small text file a site asks your browser to keep. It lets the site recognise a returning request — that you already dismissed a notice, or that your visit began at a particular referral link. Local storage does something similar but is not attached to every server request.

No advertising profiles are built here, and no cookie data is sold.
3. Cookies we do not control
Analytics scripts and affiliate networks set their own cookies. Once you arrive at an operator's site, that operator sets its own under its own policy.
4. Turning them off
Blocking analytics or attribution cookies costs you nothing as a reader — every article stays fully available.
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies.
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions.
- Mobile browsers: settings → privacy → clear browsing data.
A private window discards everything on close, which is the quickest way to read without persistent identifiers.
5. Do Not Track
Browsers send that signal inconsistently and no agreed standard exists for honouring it, so we act on your cookie choices and browser settings instead.
